We keep as little personal data as we can. This page explains what we collect, why, who helps us run the site and the choices you have.

Who is responsible

Matt Jenkins, trading as Sofa Picks is the controller of your personal data. Address: 1 Breer Street, London SW6 3HE, United Kingdom. Email: hello@sofapicks.co.uk.

What we collect

  • League details: the league name, the show and the settings you choose.
  • Player details: the names players enter and their picks. A first name or nickname is all we need.
  • Organiser email: so we can send your league links, receipt and important updates.
  • Reminder emails: if a player asks for pick reminders, the email address they give.
  • Payment confirmation: Stripe tells us a payment succeeded and gives us a payment reference. We never receive your card details.
  • Device and technical data: a small cookie that remembers which leagues and players belong to your device, plus IP address and request logs used to keep the site secure and stop spam.
  • Analytics and advertising data: only if you accept cookies. See the cookies section below.

Why we use it

  • To run your league, show the leaderboard and send the emails you ask for. This is needed to provide the service you signed up for (contract).
  • To keep the site secure, prevent abuse and fix problems (legitimate interests).
  • To send pick reminders and to use analytics and advertising cookies (consent). You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • To keep payment records for tax and accounting (legal obligation).

We do not sell your data and we do not use it for automated decisions about you.

Who helps us

We use a small number of trusted providers who process data on our behalf:

  • Supabase: database hosting.
  • Railway: website hosting.
  • Stripe: card payments.
  • Resend: sending emails.
  • Google Analytics and Google Ads: visitor statistics and ad measurement, only with your consent.

Some of these providers store data outside the UK, including in the EU and the United States. Where they do, the transfer is protected by the UK's adequacy rules, the UK Extension to the EU US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

  • League, player and pick data: deleted within 12 months of the series ending. Organisers can ask us to delete a league sooner.
  • Reminder emails: removed as soon as someone unsubscribes, or with the league.
  • Payment records: kept for 6 years, as UK tax law requires.
  • Security logs: kept for up to 30 days.

Cookies

We use one essential cookie, sp_vid, which remembers your device so you can return to your leagues and only you can change your picks. We also store your cookie choice on your device as sp_consent. These do not track you across other sites.

If you accept cookies, we also use Google Analytics (_ga and _ga_6PTX28QCN7) to see which pages are useful, and Google Ads (_gcl_au and IDE) to measure whether our ads work. If you decline, these are not set. You can change your mind at any time with the Cookie choices link at the bottom of every page.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask to see the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or receive a copy to take elsewhere. Email hello@sofapicks.co.uk and we will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, please tell us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Children

Sofa Picks is designed for families, so younger players may join a league that an adult organises. We only ask players for a name and their picks, and we do not knowingly collect any other data from children.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we will tell organisers by email.
